I think Cole will probably be
here for the remainder of the summer, which is only about another week and a
half. Grace was so excited about him spending the night because he had agreed
to bring over his Xbox 360. We don’t have any gaming stations or anything like
that. Grace has a DS-I, but that’s about it. They played a racing game for
about 45 minutes. Afterwards they got up, ran around a bit, had an ice cream,
and returned to the Xbox. Grace was the first one in the bedroom and picked up
the controller that Cole claimed to be his. They argued and argued over the
controllers and never resolved their dispute. I walked into the room after giving
them several opportunities to work out their disagreement, unplugged the Xbox,
gathered all of the games, and told them both that if they couldn’t resolve the
issue then it was time to put the Xbox up. It wasn’t until that moment that
they both agreed that they would “work things out.” But…it was too late.
Grace and Cole were upset and
walked outside to sit on the porch. I began to provide them with a wealth of
knowledge about the things I did as a child when there were no gaming stations.
I told them about a time when I made some stilts out of old cans, using a
hammer and nail to put hole in the sides of the cans where the strings would go
and could be used as handles. I even modeled the way the strings were held and
talked about how much fun I had. I used a very expressive voice and over exaggerated
facial expressions hoping they would buy into this idea. I was even willing to
open some canned foods to encourage them to use their creativity to work
together to create some of their own stilts. They both paused for a moment
looking at me after I stopped talking, looked at each other, and Cole said, “Let’s
go swimming.” I was shocked that they weren’t the least bit interested in my noteworthy
idea. They quickly retrieved their bathing suits and went to swim.
Melissa, Austin, and Cole
visited, leaving around 4:30. Harlee and Jo visited for a while. Jo sat on the
pool deck and helped Melissa complete a questionnaire needed for a reference.
Little David came over asking
Mandy if she would bring the vacuum cleaner to help him with cleaning his
apartment.
